PIGS

LARGE BLACKS

PORK WITH PERSONALITY...

Native to the South West of England, Large Black pigs are a rare breed, with fewer than 300 registered breeding sows.  We love these lop-eared, friendly beasts and they make a wonderful addition to the farm and to Wonky Horn’s produce.

They are a very hardy pig and happy to live outside year round. While their eyesight might be hampered by those forward-falling ears, their sense of smell is excellent and they’re keen foragers. They love nothing more than spending their days rooting around and wallowing in mud.

ON THE FARM...

We slow grow our pigs on a certified organic feed alongside all the grass and bugs that they forage. They take longer to finish than a commercial pig but trust us, they’re worth the wait. The flavour of meat from the Large Blacks, and especially the crackling is what they are famous for.

We farrow our pigs indoors and they can often be seen when visiting the butchery if we have had a litter recently.
